The Portuguese Final was held on February 26th at the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon, hosted by Alice Cruz & Artur Agonstinho. The winner was chosen by the votes of 18 regional juries and an “expert” jury.

Fernando Tordo previously came 5th in the 1969 Portuguese Final, 3rd in 1971 & 8th in 1972. At the ESC he was equal 10th. Tonicha represented Portugal in ESC 1971, while Simone de Oliveira did the same in 1965 & 1969.
